Shionari in Japanese means the sound of the ocean waves coming back to the shore, and you can feel the ocean movement in the gentle, flowing curves of the dish.
Made in collaboration with the Mesm Tokyo Hotel, this line of dishes is meant to fascinate the five senses by invoking the sound and scent of the ocean waves. The texture of the dishes is also very important, as it is Japanese custom to hold the vessel while eating. A penetrating glaze is applied, which does not impair the texture of the ceramic, creating a smooth, unpolished texture that feels pleasantly warm against your hand, not unlike the heated sand on your favourite beach.
In contrast to the matte finish and light, thin construction, the Shionari dishes are durable and stain-resistant, making them suitable for daily use at home, and strong enough for professional settings as well.
The small size is the perfect size for sauces, olive oil, and other condiments, but can also be used after meals for desserts such as nuts, fruits and ice cream. The wavy silhouette will naturally complement the food inside.
The medium size is ideal for bread, desserts, or sandwiches. This plate is easy to use for everyday dishes, but is also an elegant choice for special occasions and important meals.
Use the large size for salads, pasta and curry, and other main dishes. The soft silhouette makes it easy to pick up, while also serving to naturally enhance the beauty of the food on top.
