A versatile storage box crafted from traditional Japanese washi paper, featuring colourful, modern katazome (stencil-dyed) patterns. The handmade paper’s subtle texture and clean, understated finish bring warmth and character to this timeless piece.
Handcrafted by skilled artisans at Keijusha in Yatsuo, Toyama Prefecture, a region renowned for its washi papermaking, each box reflects a tradition of craftsmanship passed down through generations. The washi is dyed using plant-based pigments, and the intricate stencil-dyeing process gives each pattern its own distinctive character.
The small size accommodates A5-sized paper, making it ideal for organizing letters, envelopes, stationery, sewing supplies, incense, candles, hair accessories, and other everyday essentials. If you keep an incense sachet in it, it allows its gentle fragrance to greet you whenever you open the box.
Both practical and decorative, this substantial, beautifully crafted box makes a lovely accent for any interior, a thoughtful gift, or a small work of art to appreciate in everyday life.
About Keijusha
Keijusha’s founder, Keisuke Yoshida, played an important role in reviving traditional Japanese papermaking. His work was highly regarded by Sōetsu Yanagi, a leading figure in the Japanese Mingei folk craft movement. Inspired by this tradition, Yoshida developed washi that would resist tearing even when wet, including paper used by renowned Mingei textile designer Keisuke Serizawa.
Yoshida studied stencil dyeing and design directly under Serizawa, developing his own distinctive approach to washi products. His refined aesthetic and dedication to traditional craftsmanship continue to shape Keijusha’s work and contribute to the cultural richness of Toyama today.
