Versatile and beautiful for generous salads, pasta, curries, individual main dishes, and even desserts, this plate is designed for everyday use.
Its soft silhouette, shaped with gentle curves, sits naturally in the hand, with a subtle edge that is easy to hold. The proportions are thoughtfully designed to create a beautiful sense of space around whatever you serve, allowing each dish to look naturally balanced on the plate.
Shionari in Japanese means the sound of the ocean waves coming back to the shore, and you can feel the ocean movement in the gentle, flowing curves of the dish.
Made in collaboration with the Mesm Tokyo Hotel, this line of dishes is meant to fascinate the five senses by invoking the sound and scent of the ocean waves. The texture of the dishes is also very important, as it is Japanese custom to hold the vessel while eating. A penetrating glaze is applied, which does not impair the texture of the ceramic, creating a smooth, unpolished texture that feels pleasantly warm against your hand, not unlike the heated sand on your favourite beach.
In contrast to the matte finish and light, thin construction, the Shionari dishes are durable and stain-resistant, making them suitable for daily use at home, and strong enough for professional settings as well.
