Shionari in Japanese means the sound of the ocean waves coming back to the shore, and you can feel the ocean movement in the gentle, flowing curves of the dish.
Made in collaboration with the Mesm Tokyo Hotel, this line of dishes is meant to fascinate the five senses by invoking the sound and scent of the ocean waves. The texture of the dishes is also very important, as it is Japanese custom to hold the vessel while eating. A penetrating glaze is applied, which does not impair the texture of the ceramic, creating a smooth, unpolished texture that feels pleasantly warm against your hand, not unlike the heated sand on your favourite beach.
In contrast to the matte finish and light, thin construction, the Shionari dishes are durable and stain-resistant, making them suitable for daily use at home, and strong enough for professional settings as well.
This bowl can be used for any meal of the day, from cereal or yogurt at breakfast to soups and salads at lunch to after dinner desserts. It is also recommended for making plenty of coffee, cafe au lait, tea and other drinks.
