ReIRABO is a modern reinterpretation of irabo, an ancient glazing technique traditionally seen in Japanese tea bowls and handcrafted ceramics. Celebrated for its uneven texture and organic depth, the beauty of irabo lies in its variation—each piece carries a unique character.
While this type of glaze is typically difficult to stabilize for everyday use, Yumiko Iihoshi has carefully developed her own original irabo glaze through repeated testing. The result is a collection that bridges the qualities of handmade and industrial production, offering both character and practicality. Each form is thoughtfully designed for ease of use, making it ideal for serving Japanese cuisine as well as a variety of everyday dishes.
This rice bowl is perfectly sized for daily use, whether serving a generous portion or a small helping. Its soft, rounded shape sits comfortably in the hand. It also makes a thoughtful gift for celebrations such as a new home, wedding, or for loved ones.
The ReIRABO collection includes cups, plates, and bowls in matching tones, designed to be mixed and matched freely.
As each piece is finished by hand, slight variations in colour and texture may occur. These natural differences are part of its charm, giving every item its own individual expression.
