ReIRABO is a contemporary reinterpretation of irabo, an ancient glazing technique often found in traditional Japanese pottery, such as matcha bowls and artisan-crafted vessels. Its beauty lies in its uneven, expressive surface—subtle variations are embraced, giving each piece a distinct and individual character.
While this type of glaze is typically difficult to stabilize for everyday use, Yumiko Iihoshi has developed her own original irabo glaze through extensive testing. The result is a collection that harmonizes the richness of handmade ceramics with the practicality of modern production. Each form is carefully considered for ease of use, making it well suited for serving Japanese cuisine as well as a wide variety of everyday dishes.
This piece sits between the Redonburi and Gohan Chawan in size—a small, versatile donburi bowl designed for daily use. As donburi bowls are often held in the hand, prioritizing lightness and usability can naturally lead to slight variations during firing. In this design, those subtle differences are intentionally embraced as part of its character.
Lightweight and easy to serve from, it is ideal for rice dishes, soups, and everyday meals. Pair it with small or medium plates from the same ReIRABO series to create a harmonious and inviting table setting.
The collection includes cups, plates, and bowls in matching tones, designed to be mixed and matched freely according to your personal style.
