Viewpoint in the Fog is the latest publication from Postalco founders Mike and Yuri Abelson, marking the brand’s 25th anniversary.
This book explores Postalco’s philosophy of design through making, a practice they call “thinking through the body.” From their first small notebooks to furniture and everyday tools, Postalco’s work grows from curiosity, careful observation, and a deep respect for craftsmanship. Over time, their perspective has expanded to a wide range of lifestyle products, all thoughtfully created and seamlessly integrated into everyday life.

At its heart, the book explores what it means to create in the midst of daily life. Inspired by conversations with friends who balance creative practices with family and other demands, Mike and Yuri describe creativity as “moving forward through dense fog". Rather than seeing chaos as an obstacle, they embrace it as part of the process.
Viewpoint in the Fog is both a behind-the-scenes look at Postalco’s approach and a thoughtful reference for anyone navigating the challenges of creative work—whether in design, food, music, writing, or beyond.

POSTALCO was founded in 2000 by Mike and Yuri Abelson in Brooklyn, New York. Deliberately distancing themselves from fleeting trends, they create items they personally want. Marking their 25th anniversary, this book offers a behind-the-scenes look at POSTALCO. In their introduction, Mike and Yuri describe the act of creating something new through careful observation to "moving forward through dense fog" inspiring the book’s title, "Viewpoint in the Fog.”
Postalco began in New York, and is now based in Tokyo. Behind their distinctly original product ideas is a way of seeing and thinking - feeling their way forward through the fog.
