This simple tray made from burnt paulownia wood quietly elevates everyday moments. Its distinctive texture brings warmth and a subtle sense of luxury to whatever you place on it.
Perfect as a café tray, a base for incense sticks, small objects or flowers, or a tray for condiments. A versatile piece that fits naturally into both Japanese and Western settings — and a thoughtful gift as well.
Each piece is carefully handcrafted in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture. The rustic texture of natural wood and its honest form create a comforting appearance. Made from heat-resistant paulownia wood with just the right thickness, the weight is surprisingly light, making it pleasant to touch. With use, the surface gradually develops a richer character and patina.
[What is Kiri?]
Kiri (桐) is a Japanese word for paulownia wood. Paulownia is the lightest wood found in Japan, and it has the unusual characteristic of being resistant to moisture while also being resistant to fire. Taking advantage of these properties, it has been widely used for chests of drawers, rice boxes, and other boxes used to store high-quality valuables (pottery, silk , etc.), as well as for a wide range of everyday items such as koto and geta sandals.
This product is handcrafted in Kanazawa, Ishikawa prefecture. Their paulownia crafts have a unique dark surface that has been burned and polished using the traditional techniques. This particular finish requires more effort than usual, as each piece is burned, the soot is removed, and then polished. With this finish, the beautiful grain of the wood becomes even more pronounced. The flame-resistant paulownia becomes even more durable, making discolouration and stains less noticeable.

Because it's made from natural paulownia wood, the grain and each colour will vary from piece to piece. This is not a defect.
