Tokyo, Japan
Taking inspiration from the functionality and pure sense of a vessel, this is a tableware brand designed and produced by an artist Yumiko Iihoshi. The aesthetic forms and unique colour palettes are infused with a sense of nostalgia, inspiring us to reflect and reminisce about time while using it in our daily lives.
Since its foundation in 2007, Yumiko Iihoshi’s concept is to create a design that is on the boundary between handmade and conventionally manufactured products. All products are crafted in Japan. While working with skilled craftsmen and potters across Japan, Yumiko Iihoshi has achieved and continued to create her original ceramic glazes and unique shapes using manual processes. With their clean and simple design that makes any dining situations look beautiful, the stable and durable construction created by outstanding Japanese craftsmanship has been received highly by professionals and adapted in many restaurants, cafes and hotels.
About the Artist
After graduating from Kyoto Saga University of Arts, studying a Porcelain major, Yumiko started her own porcelain collection under her own name. She designs and oversees the manufacture of porcelain tableware which combines the use of molds for uniformity, with hand glazing by artisans, to ensure each piece has a sense of individuality. Osaka shop was opened in 2012, then Tokyo showroom & shop in 2014.
“It is not something that every single claim is too apparent. I thought that it would be nice to have warmth in design, but not argue too much.” - Yumiko Iihoshi
