The body of this basket is made from cherry wood bark and “houki” bamboo that is a thin type of bamboo that grows in the northern region of​​ Miyagi Prefecture. The cherry bark is used for the vertical bones, with the bamboo thinned down to 3mm pieces and handwoven through with a very fine stitch. Dark brown and light green, the contrasting colours of the two materials make for an unique and attractive appearance. The colour of the material will turn deeper over time and use while slowly adding a rich patina to its character. 

The handle is carved from cedar wood and is notched at the sides in order to firmly attach it to the basket with twine. This technique makes the handle very sturdy and you will be able to carry heavy weight without experiencing any shakiness at all. 

The simple beauty of this basket allows it to easily blend into old or new homes. At home, we recommend to use one to keep together household items such as sewing/knitting tools, stationery, books, small tools and accessories, toys, hand towels, etc…
