“Futagami”, a brass foundry founded in the city of Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture, Japan in 1897 launched a brass livingware brand named “FUTAGAMI”.

Brass has long been used in various fields such as metal fittings for architecture, ships, and furniture as it corrosion resistance property and moderate workability. It has a long history as material for arts and crafts or Buddhist alter equipment as its texture is gentle with an elegant luster.

Brass products gradually change their colour over the course of many years due to oxidization. The longer they are used, the richer and subtler they become, dissolving into the environment and the daily lifestyle.

This bottle opener is made of solid brass with no pleating nor painting. It has a bright polish at first, but the colour gradually turns darker to show a distinctive patina with handling over time. Using it often and for a long time unveils the beauty of the material to its maximum potential.

In order to bring back the original bright polish, you may use an abrasive or cloth made for polishing metals. As this product is sand-casted, it has a crude casting surface called “IHADA”. The sandy texture, variation in colour and marks unique to IHADA are the proof of “solid brass”.

This beautifully crafted bottle opener makes a great gift. It brings a little more pleasurable moment every time you open the bottle with it.
