SKU: CADAY075 Categories: , Tags: ,

Handcrafted Japanese candles, made from all natural sumac (HAZE) wax by a master candle making craftsman (there may be as few as only 10 master candlemakers left in Japan).

The sumac wax is heated until molten, then scooped and rolled around the hollow wick using special bamboo equipment and glass fiber sticks. After drying, the process is repeated several times in order to reach the desired length and diameter.

The hollow wick is made from rolled WASHI paper, wrapped with rush weeds. Silk fibers are then used to hold the weeds in place. Thanks to this structure and the crafting process of the candles, they produce a more solid flame that burns larger than conventional western candles. As only natural ingredients are used, less soot and odor are created when extinguished as well.

Sold in a pack of 8, each candle stands 76mm tall with a burning time of 20 mins.

Recommended to use with the RIPPOH (Cube) candle stand.

Shiga, Japan

Always mindful of the close-knit relationship humans have with flame, Daiyo creates slow burning Japanese candles that are meant to act as gentle companions to any home scenario, illuminating a room in a way that electrical lights never could.

“From monologue to dialogue” is a principle theme at Daiyo, as the light of a candle flame effortlessly emanates compelling emotions, with the power to create new relationships all around it.

Daiyo was established in the Takashima county of Shiga Prefecture in 1914, and their principles of candle making have been steadily passed down for over a century and through four generations. Situated near the largest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa, Daiyo candle makers have always had a close relationship to the blessings of nature and have consistently made their candles from 100% natural plant wax, a local and sustainable resource that does not produce smoke and is virtually odorless.

The use of this material makes Japanese candles the most ideal option for in-home use, with a beautiful large flame which, when extinguished, creates less soot and odor than conventional western candles.

Perfect for a cozy family meal, a relaxing warm bath, or just for a moment of meditation at the end of a long day.
