Handmade by Iga, Mie Prefecture craftsmen, the AZMAYA Iga Dobin ceramic teapot is finished with a warm white Sekkai lime glaze and simple bamboo handle. A beautiful and traditionally styled teapot with a refined look which works well in any contemporary setting.

Handcrafted using traditional techniques, Iga-ware uses clay and natural glazes local to the region which are extremely resistant to heat and react well to repeated firing. Iga clay offers an elevated level of hardness while the pebbles in the clay result in natural character and texture.

The “Sekkai” glaze offers a warm natural tone and a glossy textured finish.

Due to its delicate structure, the Iga Dobin Teapot cannot be used on direct flame but is excellent for keeping tea warm.

The handcrafted quality of the Iga Dobin Teapot results in unique differences in shade, gloss & size of glaze.

In order to best protect the Iga Dobin Teapot ceramic from stain or odour, before first use, please follow the care instructions provided.

Outer 11.5cm (w/ spout) 15.0cm x H 11.0cm (not including handle)

Usage:

✕ Gas stove top

◎ Microwave

✕ IH (Induction heating)

✕ Oven

✕ Dishwasher

Season:

  1. Place the vessel in a pot of rice water* (white cloudy water left after rinsing rice)
  2. Simmer for about 10 minutes**.
  3. Wipe off the slimy moisture with a soft cloth, and dry well.

*Rice water can be replaced with leftover rice, porridge, wheat flour, or potato starch with water added.

** Depending on the vessel size, we recommend soaking for about at least 10 minutes to 2 hours.

By doing this work, the fine cracks on the surface are blocked with starch, making it difficult for stains and odors to adhere. The small cracks that can be seen inside and outside the vessel occurring naturally due to the nature of the soil from Iga, and can be used without any problem.

Wash:

  1. Hand wash your Iga ware well with a scrubbing brush
  2. Dry it thoroughly and store in a dry area. Insufficient drying can lead to mold growth.
  3. Do not use hardware such as a metal brush as it may damage the skin of the vessel causing water leakage or cracks.
  4. If there is remaining odor from food, season your product with boiling tea leaves for about 10 minutes. The ingredients contained in tea will absorb the odor. If it becomes moldy, add vinegar, and let it boil for about 10 minutes. The sterilization and deodorant action of vinegar is effective.
